Overview of Mardi Himal Yoga Trek

The Mardi Himal Yoga Trek is a short trek mindfulness-focused trek in the Annapurna region and one of the newest popular routes in Nepal. This hidden gem offers views of snowy peaks, valleys, and beautiful landscapes. Many travellers combine trekking with yoga to relax their bodies and minds. Yoga is a spiritual and physical practice that includes breathing exercises, meditation, stretching, and various postures. Nepal is becoming a popular destination for yoga due to its clean air, natural surroundings, and suitable altitude. Mardi Himal is an ideal location for yoga because it has a good atmosphere, nature all around, and a low risk of altitude sickness.

On the yoga trekking in Mardi Himal, you will have an experienced yoga guide who leads daily sessions. Yoga and meditation sessions take place in the morning before breakfast. You can also request sound healing, mantra chanting, spiritual talks, or mindfulness practices. In the evening, yoga is held before dinner. During trekking, if you feel tired, the group can pause for brief yoga, meditation, or healing sessions. These practices help your body relax, support altitude acclimatisation, and create a calming routine throughout the trek.

This yoga trek starts with a short flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara. From Pokhara, you drive to Dhampus and begin trekking to Pothana, then continue to Forest Camp, Low Camp, Badal Danda, and Mardi Himal Base Camp. Next, you hike to the High Camp and climb to the peak to enjoy the views. After the summit, you return to the High Camp, then trek to Siding, Lumle, and finally back to Pokhara. You also explore Pokhara’s lakes, caves, and waterfalls before flying back to Kathmandu.

This Mardi Himal Yoga Trek Nepal combines slow, steady walking with mindful breathing, meditation, and mantra chanting, offering a holistic way to explore the region while caring for your body, mind, and soul. Whether you are a yoga practitioner, spiritual seeker, or adventure lover, the trek immerses you in Himalayan culture.

If you want a customized itinerary or different pacing, the Footprint Adventure sales team can help. You can discuss your preferences, and they will create a personalized yoga trekking experience.

Major Highlights of Mardi Himal Yoga Trek

Mardi Viewpoint

Mardi Upper Viewpoint is the best section of this short and typical Mardi Himal trek since it offers panoramic views of nature. The northern side offers stunning mountain vistas, while the east and west offer harsh terrain and high heels. The southern side offers views of Pokhara city and its lakes. Sunrise and sunset are intriguing because you can see the sun's golden splendour. Mardi Himal offers breathtaking views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Machapuchhre, Nilgiri, and more.

Pokhara

Pokhara, in western Nepal, is a major tourist city in the Annapurna Himalayas. It's a great place to view mountains, lakes, and other natural treasures. Annapurna Base Camp, Poonhill, Ghorepani, and Mardi Himal begin at Pokhara. Pokhara is also the starting point for most tourism, trekking, and adventure activities in Nepal, including boating, rafting, Annapurna trekking, paragliding, bungee jumping, ziplining, canyoning, and skydiving in Annapurna.

Yoga sessions with breathtaking mountain vistas

The Mardi Himal Yoga Trek combines trekking with daily yoga and meditation under the guidance of an experienced instructor. Morning yoga is part of the standard program and is generally held before breakfast. Sessions are also conducted before dinner, and if participants feel tired during the trek, short breaks can be taken along the trail for yoga, stretching, and mindfulness practices.

The practices include breathing exercises, gentle stretches, yoga asanas, and mindfulness techniques, all designed to support physical relaxation, mental clarity, and overall well-being throughout the journey.

When is the Best Season for Mardi Himal Yoga Trek?

The Mardi Himal walk is possible throughout the year, although September, October, and November are the best months to go. These three different months come in Nepal's post-monsoon autumn season, which offers a beautiful blue sky, breathtaking mountain vistas, and lush landscapes. You still have the spring season if you can't complete your adventure in these three months (March, April, and May). Autumn and spring are the best times to go trekking on Mardi Himal because you can see the Annapurnas, the scenery is green, and there are rhododendron flowers everywhere.

How Fit do I need to be for the Mardi Himal Yoga Trekking?

A good training schedule prior to your journey will make it much more pleasurable. The Mardi Himal Yoga Trek is comparable to other hikes in the Annapurna region. It doesn't require any climbing expertise. We have seen people of all ages, including the young, overweight, and underweight, complete this trek, and they all express great appreciation for it being a non-difficult trek that does not call for technical gear like ropes, oxygen cylinders, crampons, or walking poles.

How Difficult is the Mardi Himal Yoga Trek, and How Should I Prepare Myself for the Trek?

You will only be walking through a jungle for one or two days on the Mardi Himal Journey, so it is an easy trek. You might come across a wild yak, a leopard, or other animals. Be cautious of the avalanche once you arrive at the Mardi Himal base camp.

Mardi Himal Yoga Trek is without a doubt a once-in-a-lifetime trek for people who love adventure and yoga. When you go on a yoga trek in the Annapurna area, you can enjoy a peaceful walk and unobstructed views of the Himalayas. Aside from that, you can continue your trek from Pokhara to Annapurna Base Camp, Ghorepani Poonhill, and many other destinations. Transportation Details

     By Air

Our regular Mardi Himal Yoga Trek package includes a direct flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara, which takes about 30–35 minutes and costs approximately 130 USD one way. This is the fastest and most convenient way to reach Pokhara. From Pokhara, we will arrange a private 4WD transfer to Dhampus Village, the starting point of the trek.

    By Private Transfer

If you prefer to enjoy the scenery, you can choose a private transfer from Kathmandu to Pokhara, which takes 6–7 hours. You can stop along the way wherever you like. Since it takes longer, this option will add one extra day to your itinerary.

    By Bus

This is the most budget-friendly option, costing about 12–15 USD one way on a luxury sofa bus. The bus stops along the way for lunch. Since it takes longer, choosing this option will also add one extra day to your itinerary.

    **Pokhara Road Update**

Due to ongoing road construction, travel time between Kathmandu and Pokhara has increased from 6–7 hours to around 8–9 hours, with added congestion and pollution.

    Daily Yoga and Meditation Schedule

Each day on the Mardi Himal yoga trek, we start our day with yoga and breathing exercises before breakfast to awaken the body and mind, and in the evening, if there is enough time, we practice yoga and meditation before dinner to help you relax and reflect after a long day of trekking. Throughout the day, if the camp feels long or you feel tired, we include short yoga sessions or breaks to refresh yourself. Meditation is available at different times, and you can also request sound healing with your guide. Every session focuses on mindfulness, while stretching and yoga postures keep the body active and flexible.

Permits & Entrance Fees for Mardi Himal Yoga Trek

To trek in the Mardi Himal region, two permits are mandatory. If you travel with us, we will organise all necessary permits for you, and the costs are included in your package.

    • Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP): Cost 3,000 NPR for foreigners, 1,000 NPR for SAARC nationals. Valid for a single entry and allows access to designated areas within the Annapurna Conservation Area
    • Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) Card: Cost 2,000 NPR for foreigners, 1,000 NPR for SAARC nationals

Note: These permits are non-transferable and non-refundable, so please plan your trekking dates and itinerary carefully. Children under 10 years do not require a permit.

Internet, Electricity & Phone Access in Mardi Himal Yoga Trek

    • Mobile network coverage is generally available along the Mardi Himal Trek, with 4G coverage from NTC reaching up to High Camp. However, the signal can be intermittent and unreliable, especially at higher elevations.
    • Internet access is available in most teahouses along the trek. In lower and mid-elevation teahouses, it works reasonably well, but in higher regions, the connection is often slow, unreliable, and may cost around NPR 200–300 per day.
    • Device charging is available in most teahouses at a cost of NPR 200–500 (approximately $2–4) per device per hour. Charging is usually done in common areas such as dining halls or reception, as rooms rarely have individual plugs. The price may vary slightly depending on the teahouse and its altitude.

Meals and Dining on the Mardi Himal Yoga Trek

    • During the Mardi Himal trek, we will provide all three meals as part of the package. Breakfast and dinner are served at the teahouse, while lunch is prepared fresh along the trail at local guesthouses or restaurants during your hike.
    • Yogis who follow a strict vegetarian diet usually prefer healthy vegetarian meals. If you want to eat like this, a wider range of suitable options is available on the Mardi Himal trek. Typical meals include pasta, noodles, soups, fried rice, vegetables, bread, pancakes, and Dal Bhat (Nepali traditional meal) as the most filling option.
    • Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options are available, along with seasonal fruits. If you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions, please let us know in advance so we can accommodate your needs.

Drinking Water on Mardi Himal Yoga Trek

    • At the lower elevations of the Mardi Himal Yoga trek, bottled water can cost around NPR 80–100 for one litre. But as you go up, the price increases and could be around NPR 150 for one bottle.
    • Most lodges will offer boiled water, which costs about NPR 400 for a litre.
    • At higher elevations, bottled water is not easily available and is more expensive. Thus, we highly recommend carrying water purification tablets or relying on boiled water supplied by the lodges.

    Group Leader and Crew

    • Throughout the Mardi Himal Yoga Trek, you will be accompanied by our professional, licensed trekking yoga guide who has in-depth knowledge of yoga practices, meditation techniques, and holistic wellness, along with wilderness training and first aid credentials.
    • For groups larger than 5, we will provide a second assistant guide from our team for extra support and assistance.
    • To make your trek easier, we generally have one porter (Sherpa) for every two trekkers to help carry your gear.

    Trekking Equipment

    • For the Mardi Yoga Trek, you don’t need to carry a lot of gear or spend much money on extra equipment and clothing before your trip. Most essential items can be bought at reasonable prices in Kathmandu or Pokhara. You only need to bring a comfortable backpack, sturdy trekking shoes, warm clothing, a water bottle, a hat, sunglasses, and your personal items. All yoga and meditation essentials, including a yoga mat will be provided for you during the trek.
    • We provide a detailed packing list for the Mardi Himal yoga trek to ensure you have everything you need for the trek, including essential gear for various weather conditions. Don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions about what to pack for the Mardi Himal Trek.

    High Altitude Sickness

    • Since the Mardi Himal Yoga Trek reaches elevations of around 4,500 meters near High Camp, there is a moderate risk of altitude sickness. While the altitude is lower than some of the high Himalayan routes like Everest Base Camp, proper acclimatisation and preparation are still important.
    • Our itinerary is designed with gradual altitude gain wherever possible, allowing your body to adjust naturally as you ascend. Even with a steady pace, trekkers should be aware that the higher sections of the trek require both physical and mental readiness.
    • It is important to understand altitude sickness and take preventive measures seriously. Reduced oxygen at higher elevations can cause symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, shortness of breath, or fatigue. Ignoring these symptoms may lead to more serious conditions.
    • The safest approach is to monitor your health closely, stay hydrated, communicate regularly with your guide, rest whenever needed, and descend immediately if symptoms worsen. Following these precautions will help ensure that your Mardi Himal Yoga Trek remains safe, enjoyable, and memorable

    Trekking Grade

    • The Mardi Himal Yoga Trek is generally considered moderate, with daily hiking distances ranging from 5–7 hours. Prior trekking experience can be helpful, but is not required. The most important thing is to be moderately fit, comfortable with long walking days, and maintain a positive mindset throughout the trek.
    • The trail has some steep climbs, a mix of wide and narrow paths, rocky sections, and a few suspension bridges. As you go higher toward High Camp, the route becomes more remote and peaceful, with stunning natural views.
    • To make the trek easier and more enjoyable, short yoga sessions will be held along the way, especially if you feel the hiking stretches are longer or more challenging.

    Weather and Climate

The weather on the Mardi Himal Yoga Trek can be unpredictable, especially at higher elevations near High Camp. Conditions can change quickly, from sunny to cloudy, windy, or cold, even within the same day. Temperatures drop in the mornings and evenings, and light snowfall is possible during the winter season (Dec- Feb). Trekkers should carry warm layered clothing such as insulated jackets, thermals, gloves, and hats, along with waterproof gear to stay comfortable and protected from sudden rain or snow.

    Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is highly recommended for the Mardi Himal Yoga trek. Although the trek does not reach extreme altitudes, it still involves remote trails, changing weather, and limited medical facilities, so having proper insurance is still significant. Make sure the policy includes emergency high-altitude rescue, evacuation, and medical coverage. To see which insurance is better for the trek, check out our guide on Travel insurance required for trekking in Nepal.

    Tipping

Tipping on the Mardi Himal Yoga trek is not mandatory, but it is an important way to acknowledge the hard work of your guide and porter, as it forms a significant part of their income. Generally, we recommend tipping 10–12% of the trek package price for your porter and 12–15% for your guide. You can adjust the amount according to the quality of service and your overall experience. Providing tips in Nepalese Rupees or a widely accepted currency like USD is recommended.

    FAQs

Q1. What is the fitness level requirement for the Mardi Himal Yoga Trek?

A good training schedule prior to your journey will make it much more pleasurable. The Mardi Himal Yoga Trek is comparable to other hikes in the Annapurna region. It doesn't require any climbing expertise. We have seen people of all ages, including the young, overweight, and underweight, complete this trek, and they all express great appreciation for it being a non-difficult trek that does not call for technical gear like ropes, oxygen cylinders, crampons, or walking poles.

The Mardi Himal trek path normally starts from Kande, which is 1275 meters above sea level, and within a few days the trip brings you directly up to the Mardi Himal View point. The highest point you may reach is Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4500 meters, but it is unsafe when there is ice or snow, so the majority of trekkers climb to Mardi Himal Viewpoint, which is at 4250 meters.

Due to the fact that the Mardi Himal trek is a recently opened trail that passes through a lush forest and wilderness and that no clothing or equipment can be purchased there, you should be well-prepared from Kathmandu or Pokhara. You don't need the right equipment for this walk, though. You may complete this journey with ease if you have a pair of T-shirts, trekking shoes (regular shoes will do), a sun hat or cap, sunglasses, trekking paint, a pair of Sucks, a headlamp, normal gloves, a down jacket, sunscreen cream, general medication, a water bottle, sandals, novels, etc.

The base of the Mardi Himal hike now has a tea house. There was camp base trekking prior to 2012, but now there are numerous tea houses and lodges in every town. You don't need to bring a tent for the Mardi Himal hike, but you can set up your tent close to the tea house and eat there if that's how you like to sleep. It is much warmer to remain in the lodge rather than in a tent.

Travel insurance is required for all clients taking part in our Mardi Himal Yoga Trek. We strongly advise all of our clients to purchase a comprehensive travel insurance package. The insurance must cover helicopter rescue and evacuation costs at high altitudes for trekkers to the Everest region; otherwise, inadequate protection will not be provided for personal injury, medical costs, repatriation costs, or any type of illness.

You will only be walking through a jungle for one or two days on the Mardi Himal Journey, so it is an easy trek. You might come across a wild yak, a leopard, or other animals. Once you arrive at Mardi Himal base camp, be cautious of the avalanche.

Yes, you can take your family and children on a journey to Mardi Himal. It is a simple journey; you will have a cozy hotel, hot food, a shower, Wi-Fi, and a helpful local guide, so what more could you ask for? You can certainly hike to Mardi Himal with your kids. It is lovely to introduce students or young children to the different wildernesses in this area, including the snow-covered mountains, flowers, streams, wild creatures, scenery, gorges, etc. In addition to trekking and strolling, we believe the Mardi Himal hike will serve as a research location for children and students.

Although the Mardi Himal Trek is not a very chilly route, it will be chilly if you go in December or January. You will experience temperatures between -8 and -10, although other months will be warm. Typically, the temperature rises to 20 degrees centigrade during the day and falls to -4 to -5 degrees centigrade at night.

Autumn and spring are the best seasons for Mardi Himal trekking since they provide spectacular views of the Annapurna Himalaya, lush scenery, and rhododendron flowers everywhere.

Mardi Himal is not a particularly high-altitude trek. The best advice for preventing high altitude sickness is to avoid spending the night at an elevation that is more than 3500 meters above where you spent the previous night. For further safety, it is always preferable to have one acclimatization day after climbing every 1000 meters.
